Student Spotlight: Alex Trauner
The College Fund of Pinellas County, Inc. would like to highlight our scholarship recipients who are doing amazing things in the classroom, on their campuses, and in the community!
Next up in our student spotlight... Meet Alex Trauner!
Alex is currently studying Animal Sciences at the University of Florida and plans to graduate in Spring 2021. While at UF she's joined the UF Equestrian Hunt Seat and Western Teams and competes throughout Florida and Georgia. She's excited to serve as the Public Relations officer for the club next year. She also joined Phi Sigma Pi, a gender-inclusive national honor fraternity, where she served as Public Relations committee chair and Recruitment committee chair.
Alex has become quite the world traveler over the course of her undergraduate years. She’s studied abroad in both Costa Rica and Australia!
"Moving across the world by myself without any friends from home was terrifying but so exciting,” she said, "and while the first few weeks I was definitely out of my comfort zone, I felt so grateful to be there.”
This summer she’s in Lexington, Kentucky completing an internship with Kentucky Equine Research, a world leader in equine nutrition and physiology research. Next school year she plans to do research with UF's equine genetics and equine nutrition professors. Post-grad she plans to apply for grad school for a master’s in equine nutrition before pursuing a career in the industry.
Alex says: "Receiving this scholarship from College Fund has allowed me to take full advantage of all the experiences offered in college without worrying about finances. As a first generation student, I want to experience college to the fullest and immerse myself in the university community."
Wishing you many more travels Alex! Congrats on your accomplishments.
